December 2010
Click on the link above to see an interesting article about Cayman weather in 2010. December 2010 was the second coldest December on record here. The temperature even dipped down to about 14C at one point! Interesting stuff, to me anyway!
One hour and I'm off to the airport. Mojitos, here I come!

Hand Food Mouth... or not?
Daycare sent AK home with hand, foot, mouth disease today. I will admit she's not quite herself but I don't think she has HFM. Either that or the sores in her mouth are just really hard to see? I know it has been going around so I don't blame them for concluding what they did, I'm just not convinced myself.
When AK is done on the potty, she leans forward until her head is practically on the floor and her bum is in the air so you can wipe for her. Ha!
AK says nothing hurts, she doesn't feel sick... why is there not an instruction panel or dashboard with gauges for times like this???
Talk soon xo

Independence to the max!!!
What a start to the morning. Cuddles in bed were very nice... should have stayed in bed!!!
AK didn't want juice. But she wanted a yogurt drink. But she wanted the juice straw to drink her yogurt drink with. Took a lot of tears and time (about 20 mins!) to figure that out. Whew.
Forgot a cute story from the BBQ on Sunday night - Jenni had to give Matthew a time-out for taking water out of the pool with a bucket. When Jenni sat him down, Matthew said "Annabelle too!!!" because she was doing the same thing. So Jenni sat AK down for a time-out too... doesn't sound like it was a very serious one, as there were lots of giggles and "I love you"s involved! How early they learn to rat out their friends :P
Great great news - I got a letter from the water authority today. They are reversing all the big bills and crediting me over $250 for the bills I did pay that I shouldn't have. So I am pretty happy! And I spoke with the dealership today and my truck should be ready for pickup midday.
Now to get a whole bunch of work done!!! xo

Independence
AK is definitely working on becoming more and more independent. She wants to be able to open doors by herself, there's a few she can, but the rest she's just either too short or not strong enough yet. It'll come though. She likes to take her juice straw out of the wrapper herself, and put the straw into the hole herself. She also likes to put her shoes on and worked very hard today to put her pyjamas on by herself. I just had to help her get the shirt over her head.
She is also very interactive and likes to talk. All.the.time. She has a running commentary in the car, of what she sees and what places we are driving past, and where we are going. She recognizes the way to all her friends' places and asks if that's where we're going. She likes to climb in and out of her carseat herself, and sometimes like to buckle herself up too. She even reminded me to buckle up today! "Your seatbelt, mommy, your seatbelt!".
AK likes to play games with people and she likes to take turns. She will tell you when it's your turn, or if you're going out of turn!!! Having said that, there are definitely times when she's not interested in sharing.
AK also loves singing... she surprises me sometimes with the songs she knows. She loves to perform, knowing she'll get applause at the end of it!
AK laughs so joyfully, so purely, so happily. There is nothing better than hearing her laugh and seeing her smile. She loves her friends, she loves life.

Can you swim like a turtle?
Glippety gloap gloap! (this is from a book of AK's, no I did not make up those strange words!)
Another fun day :) we stopped to collect Julie on the way to the turtle farm and got to visit with Curtis for a bit (a friend who used to live here, who is back for a week's visit). AK went right up to him and gave him a big hug and kiss, and had a rather nice conversation with him about how old she is, etc. She must remember him... she didn't make strange at all!
We had a great time at the Turtle Farm with Matthew, Hunter, Molly and Jake.
AK went down for a nap at Mike and Julie's so I could, you guessed it, go to yoga! Today's workshop was a back-bending one and it was really good. I am feeling tired though... I felt ready for bed at 4pm! It has been a really nice afternoon of reading, playing and resting. AK is just drinking up her milk right now and will be off to bed shortly. I've got the fourth load of laundry today in the dryer, so my work is nearly done. Back to work tomorrow... a short work week, just 3.5 days before I head off to CUBA!

AK looks afraid of the turtle, but really she was okay with it. She touched it with the tip of her finger! Julie is on the left and Jess is on the right.
Gorgeous girl xo

Busy weekend!
After AK woke from her nap yesterday, we headed over to the Huys. We checked out the Huys' new home and went for a swim in the pool. It's a really large pool with a really shallow part and the deepest part is 4 feet (perfect for a shorty like me). Jenni cooked a really nice ham for supper, which we had with salad and scalloped potatoes. AK wouldn't eat or have a bath... but she did brush and floss her teeth!
I then took her over to Hunter's for a sleepover - bless Jess and Ben for keeping AK so I could do all the yoga challenge stuff today. I had a meeting at 7am, a class at 10am, then a nutrition workshop at 12noon. I didn't catch up with AK until after 5pm, when she and Hunter finally woke up from their naps! Sounds like AK was an angel for the Babbs. When Jess dressed her this morning, AK told her that it was her "church dress" that she was wearing. Both she and Hunter were absolute pros at peeing on the potty today.
We finally met up at Karen's pool - she held a bbq this afternoon! She has friends visiting with their little girl so she thought she'd arrange a playdate. After all the running around all the kids did, I'd be really surprised if any of them wake before 7am tomorrow! They should be very tired out! AK didn't swim but she got herself quite wet by kicking her legs and being splashed by the other kids.
AK didn't eat much supper tonight but she made up for it by asking for a snack halfway through her very last book before bedtime... of course after flossing and brushing her teeth! Ah well, hopefully she'll be satisfied and have a good long sleep tonight.
Tomorrow is a public holiday so I'm really happy to have another day to spend with AK. The plan is to hit up the turtle farm in the morning as there is no admission tomorrow!!! xo

Cables and handstands!
It's only 2pm but what a day it's been so far!!!
Mike and Julie agreed to look after AK while I went to yoga this morning. I left my truck with them so that they could go over to Camana Bay. Guess when they got in the truck to go, it wouldn't go! It started but the gears wouldn't shift. Luckily I had the stroller in there so they just set that up and walked over. The tow truck came quickly and took the truck to the dealership, I am just waiting to hear from them what the problem is but the tow truck guys seems to think the gear shift cable (probably not the technical name!) came loose and needs to be replaced. Luckily Mike is kind enough to lend me his car for now... thank goodness for great friends.
Today's yoga class was led by a guest instructor. It was really neat - he started with a great meditation session with chanting, which we don't often have. So that was really powerful, and interesting. Later in the practice we did handstands, and I had a wonderful breakthrough with my handstands - I AM strong enough to do them! My last one was so joyful that I kept forgetting to breath but it was really awesome to realize that my upper body IS strong enough to support me and I CAN do it! The euphoria from the handstand meant that I wasn't even upset about the truck :)
AK has been a superstar today - she peed for me and for Julie, even though she has a pullup on when we go out, she still lets someone know when it's time to get on the toilet. I was actually on the phone with the dealership when she came to me and started tugging on my dress to pull me into the bathroom. She helped Julie make pizza and cookies for lunch. Yum. (I just got up to get one of the cookies that Julie sent home with me).
I might as well rest while AK is napping... this cold has nearly run its course. xo

Saturday morning tidbit
The Thomas video that AK picked out last night is called "Splish Splash Splosh". I told her that and she said "Mommy, no, SPLOOOOOOOOOOOSH". Ha!

Happy hour!
I picked up AK from daycare and told her that we were going to meet Hunter at the playground to play. The reaction?
"OH! HEE HEE HEE! I LIKE HUNTER!"
AK had a great time playing with Hunter, Molly and Matthew. Baby Jake tried to keep up (I won't be able to call him a baby for much longer, he's turning one soon!!!) and Baby Gracelyn just chilled out. It was a pretty good time, food and drinks all around, and lots of energy burned off. I think there's several children who will sleep well tonight. AK gave Hunter's flyer scooter a try but she is just too short to make it go very fast.
AK had a ginormous pee when we got the restaurant (attached to the playground), and then another one when we got home before bed. No pee in her pullup in between either! I'm so proud of her - she is doing so well. I can deflect her from wanting a treat by saying she can have one tomorrow, or that she simply can't have one before bed, after brushing her teeth. It seems to be working for now... I'm hesitant to give her a treat every single time she uses the toilet. Fingers crossed!
I think Happy Hour really is the hour after a child goes to bed... peace and quiet!

Jackpot!!!!
Two Christmas parcels - one mailed Nov 23 and one mailed Dec 6 - arrived today!!! Wheee!!! I think the senders had given up on their arrival but I kept the faith!
From Grandma and Grandpa Z, we got Christmas cards, Dora stickers and angel kleenex. Like my mom said, somehow she knew I'd have a cold when the package arrived (yet just last night, she exclaimed that the package was lost...). From my Secret Santa, I got a scuba-diving Santa ornament and several Dora Christmas ornaments. I haven't shown them to AK yet but she'll love them. My Secret Santa also used chocolate as packing material - coffee crisps, smarties and mini eggs! Yum! What a great treat.
In true Cayman style, I had to go to the airport post office to collect one parcel and to the downtown post office to collect the other. I see NO logic to that as the PO Box we use for work is only at the airport post office!
AK and I picked up Chicken Chicken for supper with the Huys. AK was a bit out of sorts and didn't really eat supper. I hope she doesn't wake in the middle of the night because she's hungry! I'll have a good breakfast ready for her in the morning.
I'm really low on energy today but managed to get through a yoga class at lunch today. I think I'll take tomorrow as a rest day as I'll be going for 8 days in a row after that. It has been a good experience to push myself through a cold though. With yoga, you can take it down a level and stop and rest whenever you need to. It was quite the juggling act to keep blowing my nose (with single-ply toilet paper, no less, what a soggy mess!) throughout the class. xo

Meeting Johnny
I got to meet baby Johnny today at lunch :) what a sweet little guy he is! He is quite the determined little baby and will try to latch onto anything if he's hungry... shoulder, shirt, whatever's handy! He seems so big and so small at the same time... just like most babies!
AK did another hat-trick tonight, three pees on the potty! She is so proud of herself, and I must say, I am too!
AK was oh, so tired tonight... her eyes were closing as we were reading stories tonight. School keeps her pretty busy but it keeps her out of trouble! When I picked her up from school today, she sang me "Mary had a little lamb", first time I've heard her sing that song! The teacher was suitably impressed and gave AK a "stupendous" Barney sticker for her good efforts!
We took a drive tonight to go look at a girl's bike for AK... unfortunately the bike was way too large for AK. I thought because it came with training wheels that it would have been a small one... but no such luck. The handlebars were taller than AK is! She didn't seem too impressed with it anyway so it's not a bad thing that it didn't work out. She did inform me that she wants a "Tinkerbell" bike. Wish me luck finding that on-island!
My mom told me to drink tea with honey and cinnamon, and then go to bed early in an attempt to get rid of this cold and sore throat I have. So off I go to do that!!! xo

A most perfect evening :)
I don't think AK and I could have had a more perfect evening together. We put stickers in AK's new Dora calendar from Uncle Chris and family (and put the pictures of the cousins on the fridge), we played outside with chalk, we had a good supper of chicken in tomato sauce and noodles and a bit of cheese, we had a couple of people stop by to pick up things (the only downer of the evening was when AK cried to see some of her stuff being lent out), we watched a Dora video, had a great bath (including washing / rinsing hair, brushing / flossing teeth) and off to bed. No fits, no tantrums, no discontent. AND THE BEST PART!!! Three pees on the potty, all initiated by AK, all in lots of time, and all successful!!!
Wow. I hope I didn't jinx myself :)
Big big exciting news today - John Christopher was born just after midnight today to Christie, Chris and big brother Mack. He is 8lbs 1oz and apparently a sweetie. I'm a bit under the weather so didn't go visit today but hope to take lunch to the happy parents and meet the baby tomorrow.

Putting stickers on the calendar. AK didn't really want her picture taken, as you can tell from the look on her face. But LOOK! No pull-up (yeah, I know you can't really see but I'm excited!)
Artwork from this past week. Top left is "tearing and pasting" with toilet paper, top right is a snowman (apparently his name is Frosty), bottom left is a coloring of a jacket and bottom right is a craft made at church on Sunday. Thought you all might like to see what AK makes!

Blue Monday
We were both pretty happy when we woke up this morning, but it all went downhill when we realized we had to go to school / work! Bah!
The rest of the weekend went by so quickly. I spent Saturday afternoon while AK napped scrubbing the kitchen. You'll find out why later :) We then headed over to Jess and Ben's for the evening. AK and Hunter played while I went to a yoga workshop, then we all had supper together, then I stayed in with AK and Hunter while Jess and Ben went out. Everyone was happy in the end! AK spent the night as I had a yoga meeting at 715am on Sunday. I had just enough time to pick AK up and take her home to get ready for church. Looks like she had a lot of fun playing with Hunter at church. Those two get along so well.
We had a total and complete meltdown for flossing on Saturday night. Wow. I now know that AK has quite a good gag reflex. Not sure where it all came from, she could have been tired, but I hope to not repeat that particular experience again!
After church AK went to play with Molly (I know I didn't spent much time with AK this weekend!!!) while CHEF REMY came to cook for me and 11 friends! There are a bunch of girls with January birthdays so we decided to have him come in and cook for us while we visited. Our menu was as follows:
AK and I walked down to the pond after I picked her up from Molly's. AK had a GREAT time chasing the ducks. It was hilarious. She'd chase them, they'd run away, and she'd giggle and laugh, and start all over again.
I had to laugh at the sign at the pond - the sides and back of the duck pond are restricted due to "breading" and nesting of animals. I wonder how breaded duck tastes? Ha!
AK ate nearly a whole little package of blueberries last night. Good thing they were on sale. AK has really been enjoying her fruit lately. Cheese and chicken are also big favorites. She is big on putting her own straw in her juice and in her yogurt drinks. She is also starting to dress herself a bit, and can get her own shoes on quite well now (on the right feet). She loves to flush the toilet and wash her hands. She is becoming more and more independent by the second!
Time to get some work done! xo

Wild Mushroom Ragout with Goat Cheese and Almonds
Main Course:
Moroccan Spice-rubbed Lobster Tail with Strawberry-Kiwi Salsa

Tropical Cheese Cake with Berry Coulis, [Layers of Key lime, Mango Mousse and Cheese Cake]
It was so good - and they brought pretty much everything they needed (all they asked for was a cutting board and salt) and took out the garbage when they left!!! Happy (potty) Days!!!
Last night, AK was eating her supper and suddenly said "Mommy, I've got to go". I said "Go where?" (duh) and AK said it again. I clued in and away we went to the bathroom where AK had a great pee on the potty!!! We celebrated with some M&Ms (nummie nummies) after supper. AK was pretty pumped that she had done so well! There is hope :)
Angella and Alex came to babysit last night so I could go out for a friend's birthday. AK was pretty happy to see them and wasn't at all bothered when I left. In fact, I had to say good bye a couple of times before she said bye to me!
AK slept in a bit this morning, which was nice for me, and we had a good breakfast with Angella and Alex, who slept over. Sue and Kylie came over and joined us for breakfast too. It was a good morning! Alex played outside with the girls for quite some time, he was very interactive and gentle with them. Sue brought a bunch of Kylie's too-small clothing for AK - AK is so blessed to get all the hand-me-downs that she does.
AK picked up the phone this morning and had a pretend conversation with Grandma and Grandpa. When I told her it was cold at Grandma and Grandpa's, she said "You should wear a jacket, and mittens, and a hat, and boots!". What a smart kid... even though she doesn't live in cold weather, she knows what you wear when you do!
Check out the photos of AK doing her hair!

40 Days to Personal Revolution
I mentioned this in my New Year's Resolution post... well, even better, my yoga studio is holding a 40 program along these principles. It starts on Monday, January 17. I have committed to the following:
I'm nervous and excited at the same time :)
- six days of yoga per week, at least five at the studio
- daily meditation practice, starting with 5 minutes twice a day, with the time increasing weekly
- observance of dietary intake
- personal journaling
- weekly community meetings
- informative workshops on nutrition
- special event workshops with two guest teachers
I'm nervous and excited at the same time :)
How can it only be Tuesday so far???
This week has been so busy so far and it is only promising to get busier!!!
I had a visit with AK last night. She sat on the potty as soon as we got home, then promptly peed all over the floor after telling me she was "all done". I spent the rest of the evening agonizing over whether or not she'd pee on the couch. When I tried to get her to go on the potty again, she melted down. Gah. I'm not loving the potty training!
AK ate half of a mini-bagel with peanut butter and jam last night. This may not seem particularly noteworthy, but AK does not eat sandwiches of any kind. So this is a coup! She did say "tuna" when I asked her what she wanted for supper, but she was stuck with tilapia. She did eat it up! She wouldn't go near her lazy cabbage rolls or coleslaw though.
AK is getting better with having her nails cut now, as I put nail polish on them after :) I have to "blow, mommy, blow" to dry them off after.
I'm off to a movie tonight, which will be welcome after having to skip a girls' night last night to work. I just hope I can stay awake long enough!

Sunday is flying by :(
I woke early this morning, wish I had slept in a bit as I was tired after yesterday, but it is just not meant to be for me!
Cindy, Jenni, Stacey and I are all following an exercise plan that Brent devised for us. After supper, wine and dessert last night, us girls thought it would be a good idea to do our exercises. So Jenni grabbed some weights from her car, Brent supervised, and we worked our biceps, triceps and abs. Ha! Of course we did this outside and the neighbors came out at one point. They must have thought we were smoking crack :) who knew you could have so much fun working out with your friends???
Today has gone by so quickly. I was pretty lazy until about 10am, when I went to yoga. Today's class was really amazing. It was a bit hard as I was feeling a bit sluggish from my wine last night, and my arms were fatigued from last night's workout. I did make a good breakthrough though, am getting closer to being able to do a headstand. Check out this cool resource. I get stuck lifting my legs straight, but at least I get get my feet off the ground now :)
I then met Angie for lunch, to celebrate her birthday. We had a great visit and I was hungry so very much enjoyed the food!
I've now been at work for 4.5 hours... just needed to take a break. I'll head home in about half an hour, and then the week starts tomorrow. There are lots of social events on my calendar, but work is busy, so I hope I am able to get out like I want to!

Ukrainian Christmas Eve Dinner
Pre-dinner playtime with all the other kids - and raisins from Karen!
The spread!!!
Counterclockwise starting from top left - tilapia (both baked and fried), mushroom gravy made by Mike, potato and cheese perogies, kutia, pickled herring, olives, pickles, coleslaw made by Christie, lazy cabbage rolls, mashed white beans, smoked salmon and kolach. Borscht was in the slow cooker way to the left.A close-up of the star - perogies! Can you believe there are only three perogies leftover???
The kids dug in - luckily I had emergency mini-bagels, PB and jam on hand for some of them :)
Supper couldn't have been any better. Everything tasted so good and I think everybody went outside their comfort zone and tried something new today. Felt like a real family dinner xo

TGIF!!!
AK and I have many many conversations about the sun. This morning, AK confirmed that the sun is shining, that it is up, that it is not sleeping! At night, we talk about how the sun goes to sleep when it is dark, and the moon comes out. AK noticed the moon at Matthew's house last night, she has sharp eyes. It was tiny as it was a pretty new moon. So pretty.
We had a couple of frights last night as the mosquito spraying planes were out. They came very close to Jenni and Kevin's balcony! Jenni and I were surprised that the planes were out during daytime. I guess they need to see where they're going but we didn't anticipate our kids (and suppers) being covered with mosquito poison!!!
I'm not exactly sure what was going on at daycare this morning when we got there, but the kids that were already there were dressed up in costumes. Should be interesting to hear about it after!

Bits and Bobs
- I asked AK to sing a song in the car today. She said "no, mommy, only at school!". So then I asked if she could sing a song at home. "No, mommy!". So then I wondered if she could sing a song at Matthew's house (we were on our way there for supper). She said "yes, mommy, singing at Matthew's house!".
- AK peed through three pairs of panties and two outfits and came home wearing a 6-12 months dress that the daycare found somewhere. Ha! The teacher said "You've got to start with potty training somewhere".
- Matthew was making some big noises in the tub and AK kept putting her finger to her mouth and shushing him.
- More successful flossing and brushing tonight. AK asked for a drink of water before bed and promptly spilled it all over herself, necessitating a change of PJs before bed. Oops!
- AK sings "The Wheels on the Bus" very well now, including hand motions. When she does the "round and round" part, she moves her hands around in front of her face and she's so focused on what she's doing that she goes cross-eyed :) it's really cute. When she sings "all through the town", she opens her arms up wide to show "all".
Brushing and flossing
Well, things are going well so far. I took AK to the grocery store yesterday and she picked out her floss holder with an orange handle. We flossed and brushed both last night and this morning. We put the brushing chart up in the bathroom so that we can track all the activity. I have promised AK a trip to the bookstore or toy store for a "big big treat" when the chart is filled in. The flossing is way easier than I thought it would be (although I wonder how long it will take for the novelty to wear off) as AK's teeth are pretty far apart.
AK was in panties at daycare all day yesterday and had only one accident. When we got home, she fought me every time I suggested going pee... not sure how fun this is going to be as they put her on the potty every half hour at daycare!!! She also had an accident about five minutes after she sat on the toilet. At least I don't have carpet :)
We took a walk down to the duck pond as well. AK carried the bread all the way there by herself and really enjoyed feeding the ducks. They seemed a bit aggressive yesterday though, and I ended up holding AK for most of the time we were at the pond.
AK is a chatterbox. I know I've said that before but she keeps becoming more and more of one!!! She has SO much to say and is starting to ask more questions, and more involved ones at that. I wish I could remember all of them to share with you!
Made my kolach last night! They are big and puffy and pretty :)

Dentist - GBU
This is a type of post that may come up once in a while - the good, the bad, the ugly.
The GOOD - As you can see from the picture above, AK was wonderful at the dentist. She sat very nicely and opened her mouth wide so that Dr. Campbell could take a look.
The BAD - cavities in all four lower molars :( we are to start brushing twice a day (once was the norm) and flossing once a day.
The UGLY - AK will have to be sedated to have the work done, and it is not recommended to do so until a child is 3 years old. So we will keep going in for checkups over the next six months, until the time comes for the fillings to be done.
I guess I'm not in the running for the Mother of the Year Award...

It's raining fireworks!
I thought I heard fireworks going off tonight around 730pm so AK and I headed outside to look for them. Someone must have been setting them off from their backyard or on the beach, not too far from us. Comments from AK included:
AK's teachers asked today for us to send lots of panties and plastic bags to daycare... the little turkey won't pee for me but she will for her teachers! But I'm not going to complain if she'll get trained at school!!!
My kutia got made tonight, with only one call to my mom (let's not count the one from the grocery store where I was wondering what kind of beans to buy for the mashed beans). It tastes pretty yummy, if I do say so myself!
AK and I talked about how she's going to the dentist tomorrow. She understands that the dentist is like the doctor, except the doctor is going to look at her teeth. I asked her to show me how she's going to show the dentist her teeth tomorrow and she opened her mouth wide up. It was pretty easy for me to brush her teeth with that strategy! AK likes visiting the doctor so I'm hoping that going to the dentist will be a positive experience as well. xo

Ahhh... back to normal!
As much as I wasn't really looking forward to coming back to work today, I have to say it's nice to be back to normal. As we left this morning, AK asked me "I'm going to school?" and when I nodded, she asked "Mommy going to work?" so she knew what was up! She whined a bit when I dropped her at daycare but was happily playing with her friends by the time I walked out the door.
AK is quite good at asking for what she wants to eat now. Favorites include yogurt drink, milk, cheese and cheerios. She asks for strawberries a lot too but I haven't bought any lately as they've been expensive. I may have to splurge! She also asks for treats a lot ("I want a TREAT!") but certainly doesn't get as many as she asks or hopes for!!!
I will go and get the remainder of the groceries I need for Saturday's supper today after work. Tonight's project is kutia. I roasted the wheat last night and have soaked it overnight. Wish me luck! xo

Sweet disposition!
AK is much sweeter when she gets 12 hours of sleep!!! I only need 9 hours to feel more like normal :)
We woke up very slowly and lazily today. AK got to watch some videos in bed and we didn't get out of bed until 830am. It was a whirlwind once we did though! We played with PlayDoh, foamy stickers, crayons, books. We had lots of snacks and drinks today too!
A few girls came over to help with perogies, and I was hoping AK would nap through part of it. Unfortunately she woke up just as we were getting started but she didn't seem too bothered by me being distracted. She had three other women to fuss over her :)
AK has learned that my name is Paula and will call me that on occasion. The girls would ask AK today "where's your mommy?" and she'd say "No, that's PAULA!". It's quite funny to her that Mommy has a name. I'm also trying to get AK to say her last name. What a mouthful!
I told AK that she was going back to school tomorrow - she's not too happy about that - well I feel the same way about going back to work! Shame that the holidays are over already... but I'm looking forward to celebrating Ukrainian Christmas this weekend! xo

2011 so far!
New Year's Day was fantastic. AK and I just hung out at home in the morning, watching some cartoons and playing with makeup!!! I cut AK's nails then painted them too!
AK and I packed up some munchies and headed to Camana Bay for a picnic (great idea, Jenni!). It was a perfect day - sunny with a bit of cloud and a most wonderful breeze coming off of the water. The kids ran around and burned off a LOT of energy - a three-hour nap worth of energy! Tracy heard AK trying to open her bedroom door once she woke up, so she helped AK open it from the other side. AK managed to communicate to Tracy that she had to open the top drawer of the dresser and lift AK so that AK could put her "sucky" where it belonged! Smart kid. AK then headed over to Charmain's for lasagna and fun times as Yvonne and Tracy treated me to a lovely dinner at Agua. We shared shrimp skewers with a tomato sauce, and a goat cheese bread basket for appetizers, then I had shrimp and scallops on champagne risotto and a cremini mushroom sauce. Yum! The other girls had the sea bass, which I've had before and very much enjoyed.
When we picked up AK, I decided to drive out to the Crighton house, which also does up the Christmas lights for people to walk through. As it was already getting late, and I was tired and full, we just drove past.
Tracy was kind enough to empty her change purse and allow AK to take the CI change for her piggy bank. AK ran into her room, then ran back into the living room, asking "Mommy, where's my piggy bank?" so I helped her get it off of her dresser. She put all of the change in, coin by coin, and Tracy also gave AK a couple of US dollars. AK folded them up and put them in the bank too then asked for "more paper please!". That got a good giggle out of us!
AK got to bed quite late again as Great Aunty Barb called as we were reading bedtime stories. I had a nice chat with her while AK read her books, then AK sang Aunty Barb a couple of songs. I think they may even have sang together? Unfortunately I missed my mom's call, too bad as I'm sure AK would have sang for her too! When I tried to sing along with her today, she stopped and said "Mommy, I'M singing". She wouldn't start again until I'd stopped.
I asked the girls to keep an eye on AK while I showered this morning. Didn't realize I had such a little monkey on my hands!
We headed out to the pool for a while so the girls could soak in their last bit of sun.
We then headed out for breakfast at Coconut Joe's with Mike and Julie... Monkey Joe surprised AK with a huge bowl of ice cream, topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce! I would have preferred that AK had eaten her pancake than the ice cream, but who can turn down a treat? AK cried some great big crocodile tears when we dropped the girls at the airport. It sure is quiet here without them!
After a nap that didn't seem long enough, as AK acted as though she'd gotten up on the wrong side of the bed (sorely testing my resolution to be a more patient mother, ha!), we headed off to Beth and Dan's pool at Camana Bay for a BBQ. As I said to Karen, it just felt right to have everyone back from holidays and together again! AK didn't want to swim today, which is fine as I didn't either, but she ran around and around with Matthew and Molly. There was a wagon for them to play with, they took turns pulling it and riding on it. I made a point of coming home early (easily done as AK started getting cranky) and the little princess was in bed by 730pm tonight. Time to get back to normal.
Tomorrow is one more day off of work for me. I have some girls coming over to help make perogies :) this next week will be a busy one with preparations for the Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner I plan to hold on Saturday night!

New Year's Resolutions
I am reading a book called 40 Days to Personal Revolution by Baron Baptiste. The premises in the book revolve around the 12 Laws of Transformation. My resolution for 2011 is to study these Laws and life my live according to them.
I think this process will help me to be a more patient mother, a better friend, a happier person and a centered yogi. I think my diet, my yoga practice and my spirituality will all flow together in a natural way. Already today, I used these Laws to consider my reaction to a couple of different situations. So far so good :)
So here are the resolutions:
1. 40 Days to Personal Revolution
2. Follow an exercise plan with Cindy (better get on today's exercise!)
The word of the year is ALLOW.

The end of 2010!
The last couple of days of 2010 were a busy time!!!
I got a message from Yvonne on Thursday morning asking if she and her friend could come stay here for a few nights - they got a room at a hotel and it was awful... guess Chateau Zaplitny was a better option! They moved in Thursday afternoon. Getting ready for them was a bit painful as I was still under the weather (only worked a half day Thursday) but I cleaned the essential stuff and left the rest :) Martha Stewart would be horrified! Ha!
They were great company though - wonderful to sit and chat with, and oh so helpful with everything around the house. Unexpected company can sometimes be the best company, hey?
Thursday night I was in bed before 8pm. Sure didn't bode well for New Year's Eve...
I worked another half day on Friday, we had champagne at work and I couldn't even go near it as my stomach was still off. There was lots of bubble fun on Friday afternoon as I got supper ready.
Jess, Ben and Hunter joined Yvonne, Tracy and I that night. The whole supper thing is noteworthy as it was the first real food I'd eaten since Tues night!!! The Babbs brought AK's Christmas presents over - a book about Chloe the malamute, a Dora floor mat and Dora PJs! We headed out after supper to see the fireworks at Camana Bay, a perfect family New Year's celebration. AK was in bed just before 10pm(!) and I followed at 11pm. Not a shabby way to ring in the New Year! xo

Is there ANYTHING better...
...than your child saying, completely unprovoked, "I lub you, Mommy!"?
Sure makes all the patience-testing moments earlier in the day totally worth it! xo
ps - Happy New Year!!! More posts to come soon.
