I attended a conference at the church on Weds/Thurs/Fri night and Sat morning. As AK was with me for Weds/Thurs, we took advantage of the childcare being offered. AK got to go to church in her pyjamas and watch movies! Hunter was there as well, and he got the biggest hug ever from AK when he saw her on Weds night. They hadn't seen each other for a while and it was clear from that hug that they had missed each other! I think having each other there was good for both of them, as it was a late night for them and it was a comfort to them. On the way home the first night, I tried guessing what videos they had watched... went through all the usual suspects of Dora, Cars, Nemo, etc... only to have AK inform me that they had watched Veggie Tales. Of course they'd be watching Christian videos at a Christian conference... ha!
The conference was really interesting. It was led by the Peacemakers Ministry from Montana and it was about resolving conflict biblically. A lot of information was shared and I hope to be able to put some of it into practice going forward.
It made for a very tired me and AK though... I have had a very low-key weekend otherwise. Yesterday, I went to yoga, out for supper with some friends, then to another friend's for a games night. Today I've spent at home, mostly cooking and resting. I have lots of food to keep me going for the week. I made lentil soup without the ham and with curry powder (not sure this is going to be a winner), tofu with ginger and garlic, blackened salmon, guacamole and a curry quinoa salad. I also made my own granola too! It is going to be hard to not eat the whole batch tonight.
Some of us are learning that our kids take us quite literally when we say something to them. AK did something really sweet the other day and I told her that she was a doll. Her response? "I'm not a doll, Mommy, I'm a GIRL!". Jenni told me a story about Kevin telling Matthew to "jump into the shower"... he literally jumped in, slipped and cut his head open... he had to go to the hospital to get the wound glued back together. He is fine but I'm sure it wasn't fun at the time!
I think AK is going to be quite the talented little artist, in terms of singing and music. She makes up little songs to familiar tunes (she sings "Ariel pyjamas" to the tune of Frere Jacques) and has a really good sense of rythym.
We had supper with Chaz, Katie and Ellie the other night... that was fun! Both Chaz and Katie were just waking from naps when we first got there and were a bit grumpy... but they cheered up to the point that Nicole let me know what Katie said as we drove away: "Thanks for coming, I love you!". Every single time we go over there, it invariably ends up that the kids chase each other around and around. Nicole says her kids don't do it otherwise... guess AK's the influence there! It is really funny,. they love it and it burns off a lot of steam! AK is very sweet towards Ellie as well. Ellie loves to hang out in her Exersaucer and watch the kids run around. AK will pause every once in a while to give Ellie a very gentle kiss and hug. It is truly heartwarming to see that.
I had a nice chat with my Dad tonight. We talked for a while as my Mom had run out to drive my Grandma home after supper, and we decided to just stay on the line until my Mom got back. I think Dad was pretty relieved when Mom got home as I think he was starting to get bored of my stories :)
I've had such a lazy day today that I may set my alarm to catch a 6am yoga class tomorrow. I can't believe the weekend is over already and Monday is tomorrow. I just need to sit tight as there are two long weekends at the end of April, they are not that far off.
My mom mentioned that she is having some problems seeing everything on the blog... if anyone else is having the same problem, please let me know either by email or by comment on the blog so I can try to figure out what the issue is and fix it!
