We're back!!!

I have so many photos and stories to share from our MB holiday. I will have to do them in instalments though, and if anyone has any memories they particularly liked, please email me with them so I can remember to include them! I should have taken notes while we were gone... my memory is failing me in my old age!

Unfortunately I have been sick since I got back... my sinuses feel like they want to explode and sinus pills are only helping so much. I will head to bed shortly and hope that a good sleep will help a lot.

AK's daycare is closed this week for cleaning and training and so AK is spending her days with Matthew and his nanny Lanie. Jenni emailed some pictures of their day today... I'm thinking this nanny gig is working out well for AK!!! I can imagine she and Matthew were pretty excited to see each other today.

Lanie managed to get into a photo too!!!

Don't these two just absolutely melt your heart?

HOLIDAY TIME!!!!! :D :D :D

I am just killing time right now, hanging out with a friend, waiting to go to the airport!

I think AK is quite excited to see her grandparents... there is a cordless phone in the play kitchen, and she was picking it up and saying 'hi grandma!" into it!

It is really fun to watch AK eat yogurt these days. She dips her spoon in, gets a big spoonful, opens her mouth up really wide, navigates the yogurt in, licks it off, then uses the spoon to scrape off any mess on her mouth. It is really cute :)

It is rainy here today, but the plane from TO to GCM is on time, and I don't see that we should have any issues leaving on time from here. Our friends Sue and Kylie will also be on the plane to TO today so that will give us a bit of companionship. I will sure be happy to see Uncle Chris on the other end in Wpg!!!

See you SOON! xo

Three sleeps til holidays!

Couldn't think of anything better for a title tonight!

I'm trying to upload video of AK playing with her new kitchen today. It won't work so I will try again tomorrow. She is pretty happy with it! A bunch of friends got together to buy it for her for her birthday, but they were buying it from Luci who is leaving the island in about a week and a half, so we agreed that it would come to us closer to the time Luci left.

AK and I met Brent for supper tonight. AK was a little unsure of Brent at first as she hasn't seen him for quite a while, but she was giving him some pretty good cuddles by the end of the evening! She and I looked at some dogs - I called them puppies as AK prefers the word "puppy" to "dog" and the owner gave me a lecture about how puppies grow up to be dogs... I KNOW... I'm just hanging out with a two year old who would rather say "puppy" than "dog"! And then another guy wanted to know how old AK was and was horrified that I'd have gotten a tattoo for her at such a young age. He was quite relieved to know that it wasn't real. Ha. Guess that's what you get when you start chatting with people who have had a few drinks.

On the way back to the car, AK wasn't watching and fell when she stepped off of the curb. I think her ego was more hurt than anything else... but she did say "my bum hurt" and I had to kiss it better. Sigh... but a couple of weeks ago, she would have pointed to her bum and said "hurt" and a week ago, she would have said "bum hurt". Baby steps towards proper sentences!

So it's really only two sleeps til holidays for AK as she is sound asleep already... I'm not far behind. I haven't slept well yet this week. Work is crazy busy, of course, it was nice and quiet the last couple of weeks of July and has been nuts so far in August. xo

My money bum

I gave AK a piggy bank today and found some coins for her to put in it. She kept dropping the coins, and because she was sitting on the bed, the coins would fall down underneath her bum. She started saying "my money bum!!!" after a while. Pretty funny concept!

She had quite the meltdown today as she wanted to watch SpongeBob videos but I don't have any and I've never shown her any so it took about ten minutes and a phone call to Jeremy to figure out what she was saying. Yikes. She was so upset that she wouldn't eat supper.

Karen was kind enough to come babysit tonight as a friend of mine from university/UFE days was on island from London, England where's she lived for five years, for work. It was short notice but we were able to set up a supper tonight. How great it was that we were able to connect and visit.

I should get to bed. It's already 1030pm and I'll be busy tomorrow at work plus I'm hosting book club tomorrow night. xo

True friendship :)

One day late last week, Annabelle was asking for Matthew. I reminded her that he went on an airplane to Canada for holidays. I emailed Jenni to let her know that AK was thinking of Matthew.

She responded that Matthew has been calling his cousin Bethany by the name Annabelle. I think he misses AK ♥

Monkey see, monkey do

When I took a bowl out of the cupboard for popcorn tonight, AK just had to go over to "her" cupboard and take out a plate to put her popcorn on. Funny.

She saw M&Ms at the store the other day and asked for "nummy nummies". Yes, I got them for her.

We hung out outside after work today. We were both tired and Bubba wasn't feeling all that great so I was keeping a close eye on him. We walked over to the lime tree and found a few nice limes to pick up. AK spent most of her bathtime drinking the bath water and trying to convince me to drink some too. I declined :)

"Driving"

Rainy Friday

Well, TGIF. It has been a long week.

Not sure what AK and I will get up to tonight. It feels like we have no friends as so many people are off-island on holidays!!! I'm thinking a popcorn party sounds like a good idea! I guess I should give AK a bath as she missed out on that last night...

AK is interested in helping take her diaper off and put one one. She is in charge of the tabs - lifting them off or on. She is certainly a determined little girl.

My Picture This order has come in and I will pick it up tomorrow. I finally sat down and went through all of the photo shoots from birth to one year old... what great memories to look at the photos of AK as she grew so quickly in that first year. I really can't get over it some days.

In 9 days, we will be on our way to Canada!!! I need to start thinking about packing, etc... fun times! xo

Yay!

Today was a good day!!!

Daycare didn't call and AK was wearing the same clothing I dressed her in when I picked her up :)

She is obsessed with closing the gate at daycare. It takes even longer to get through the gate now as AK wants me to finish closing it but it doesn't close all the way.

I'm hearing a lot of "mommy do it" and "me do it" these days, often one on the heels of the other. It can get confusing as to who's doing what!

AK noticed a boo-boo on my finger and kissed it better for me :) melted my heart!

AK had some pasta and tomato sauce for supper then we headed over to Ramona's for a bit of a play and visit. We had some chicken, Jamaican rice and peas (actually adzuki beans), corn and Cayman pumpkin. AK had some cake for dessert and I had tea with local honey. Everything was YUM.

We stayed so late at Ramona's that I was able to bring AK home and just put her straight to bed. She went down without a peep.

I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday. It's been a very busy week. xo

Fingers crossed

No poos last night or today so far... let's hope I don't get a call from daycare today!!! xo

Oh poo...

... literally.

Daycare called me around 1030am to let me know AK had had another poo-splosion. Three days in a row. And no diarrhea poos at home - so I didn't realize how bad it was. They had tried to call yesterday but I didn't answer the phone and they didn't leave a message, and no one said anything when I picked up AK from daycare. Sigh. So I picked AK up early, got some rice milk and pedialyte, as I wanted to eliminate dairy and juice until the diarrhea cleared up. I called the pedes ward at the hospital to speak to a nurse and she agreed that my treatment course sounded right and she wasn't aware of any outbreaks of anything at the daycare to be concerned with.

So there's been no poop since I picked up AK... I think we're okay to go back to daycare tomorrow.

Poor kiddo managed to get her finger caught in the screen door as it closed... owie! She had a pretty good dent in her fingertip. Of course a Dora bandaid made it pretty much better... and this reminds me of a funny thing AK has been doing lately - if she is eating something with her fingers, and is excited about it, she'll actually bite so quickly that she catches her fingers in her teeth. So she yelps with pain/surprise and needs a kiss "better".

We hit up the playground this afternoon and the duck pond after supper. She has no lack of energy from this diarrhea! She kept telling me "me over here!" to let me know where she was. Every so often, she'd bump her head or her knee and whimper. I'd blow her a kiss to "make it better" and she'd catch it and put it on her lips. It is so cute. AK had a ball feeding bread to the ducks tonight. We also got to see some sort of beagle tonight... he also wanted a bite of the bread! xo

Sleeping in!

How sad is it that I'm excited that I got to sleep until 6am today???

When I picked up AK from daycare yesterday, I noticed she was wearing clothing that wasn't hers, and that there were TWO dirty outfits in her bag (one hers, one not hers). Turns out she had had not one, but TWO poo-splosions during the day. She also had one on Monday. To recap, AK has been through FIVE outfits in TWO days. And she pooped again last night. Yikes! I sent her to daycare today with two extra outfits.

AK had a quick supper of chili and then we headed out to hit up the movie store and the grocery store. AK picked out a Diego DVD for herself and then enjoyed a cookie at the grocery store while I shopped.

Karen came over for supper last night and AK was able to hang out with her for a bit before bath and bedtime. I think Karen really enjoyed the kisses and love :)

Just to clarify - about AK picking out panties to wear - no, she is not potty-trained, but she likes to wear panties over her diaper. She has shown a lot of interest in sitting on the potty, and does so, but doesn't actually do anything on it. I guess I need to find a way to keep her sitting there until she does go and realizes that that's how it works.

So because last night's pajamas were stripey, AK wore stripey shorts to daycare today :) she's a cutie. She didn't want to pick out any shoes today though, so I just carried her to the truck and then put on the shoes when we got to daycare. AK was VERY friendly this morning, waving at everyone we walked past on our way into the building. xo

Polka dots

  • When AK was getting dressed yesterday, she looked through all her panties to decide which ones to wear. She picked the polka-dot ones as they matched "my poka dot (pa)jamas". Smart cookie.
  • We hit up Dart Park last night. What a great play structure.
  • We then went to Dairy Queen for a "milk shake". Yummo.
  • AK's talking loads and loads, sentences are about 4 words long.

Happy Monday... bah.

AK was awake at 5am again today. Yikes. I think we both slept through some good storms last night.

AK is getting much better at saying please (peas) and thank you (tank you).

She is also quite actively helping get Bubba's food. She will take the dish right out and scoop it in the food and put it back in the bowl.

She has also learned to open the door to the space where the garbage can is and throw her garbage in without any help. What a smart kid.

Time to get to work. 10 working days til my holidays and I've got lots to do! xo

Weekend update

Well, it was a full and busy weekend, as always. Highlights as follows:
  • Friday night supper with the Huys. We wanted to have one last visit with them before they headed out on holidays today. AK and Matthew had a blast together as usual. Kevin set up the pack and play for AK to sleep in but Matthew climbed into it too and neither one of them was getting to sleep. AK wasn't interested in going to sleep there anyway, so we were home around 830pm or so.
  • Saturday morning, AK went to the gym with Hunter, Jess and Ben. When I told her she was going with them, she squealed with delight and ran to the door to put her shoes on. I am SO glad she is so comfortable with them!
  • Saturday afternoon, we went to visit Nicole and baby Ellie in the hospital. AK was pretty excited to see baby Ellie when she took a "ride" up on Nicole's bed and she was very gentle when she patted baby Ellie to welcome her to the world!
  • Saturday night, Mike and Julie came over for supper. AK was trying to get Mike to pick up the "puppy poop" but it ended up that she showed him where the bags are and I picked it up :) Mike BBQ'd chicken kabobs which were awesome. Julie made an angel food cake and when she put down a plate of cake, strawberries and whipped cream in front of AK, AK sighed "ooooohhhhhhh" in delight! It was really cute. AK let Julie bathe her while I cleaned up the kitchen and then it was lights out for her with no fuss at all.
  • This morning, we had quite the adventure - we headed outside with Bubba and when AK asked for milk and we went to go back inside... we found the door locked. I finally had to stop a lady who was about to take her dogs for a walk and ask for her help. She was kind enough to run home to grab her phone and a phone book and I was able to call and get a locksmith on his way while she was out with her dogs. $50 lighter, I have placed a key somewhere in case this happens again!
  • Church was a success today! AK was pretty excited to hear that she'd be seeing "unter" at church. She cried a bit when I left her in the childcare room but apparently she was happy the rest of the time. I think she had a poo while I was in church too (yay). I really enjoyed the service and I'm happy AK enjoyed the time there more than she did last time.
  • We headed down to Ramona's to play for a bit this afternoon. Ramona lives down at the other end of the building and has a daughter Hannah, a son Theo, a dog and two cats. Hanna had a ton of fun dressing AK up as a princess and AK loved the attention. Unfortunately one of the cats kept crawling on me and so now my eyes are itchy and I'm sneezing a bit! Guess I haven't outgrown that allergy to cats yet.
  • Both naps this weekend were about 2.5hours. Good stuff.

That's all for now! xo
